The herbs used to manufacture Lao Dan products are cultivated, harvested, selected and treated in accordance with the GAP international regulations (Good Agricultural Practice). For some of the herbs, Organic Product Certifications from ECOCERT (EU) and NOP (USA) have already been obtained. The raw materials used in our Traditional Chinese Line of products are imported directly from PRC and inspected by the Health Office of the Italian Customs. The herbs are dried, cut and prepared in accordance with the Traditional Chinese Medicine practice and the methods described in the PRC Pharmacopoeia. Every substance is identified with a batch number, date of harvesting/picking, and expiry dates to certify the constant high quality of the raw materials, rich in active principles and, hence, to assure the quality of the finished product.
Herbs are harvested during the Balsamic Period, the interval of time each year, which varies from plant to plant, when the herbs possess their highest yield and best characteristics in terms of quality and quantity of active ingredients. The dried substances are the only ones that can guarantee the extraction ratio (Crude Herb: Finished Extract) codified in the official pharmacopoeia which ensures the highest concentration of the finished product and a daily dosage equivalent to the traditional Chinese decoctions. The use of vacuum packaging guarantees the optimal preservation of the drugs.
